Arrange the funeral (check for a prepaid plan first)

Why it matters

Check for a funeral plan or expressed wishes before committing. If money is tight, help may be available.

How to do it

1. Look for a prepaid funeral plan, life insurance, or written wishes first.
2. You can use a funeral director or arrange a direct cremation more cheaply.
3. On a low income you may be able to claim a Funeral Expenses Payment / Funeral Support Payment (Scotland).
