Check for Bereavement Support Payment and other help
Why it matters
A surviving spouse/civil partner under State Pension age may be entitled to Bereavement Support Payment — but it is time-limited, so claim promptly.
How to do it
- If you were married or in a civil partnership with the person, check eligibility for Bereavement Support Payment.
- Claim within 3 months of the death to get the full amount (you can claim later for less).
- Also review your own benefits/tax credits, which may change.
