Why it matters

An empty home can be a target, perishables spoil, pets need care, and bills keep running.

How to do it

1. Arrange immediate care for any pets.
2. Empty the fridge of perishables; cancel deliveries (milk, papers, meal kits).
3. Make sure the home is locked and, if empty, looks lived-in. Tell a trusted neighbour.
4. Locate keys, and keep important documents in one safe place.
