Why it matters
Incoming mail tells you which institutions still need notifying — and unmonitored mail is a common route for identity theft of the deceased.
How to do it
- Collect and open post for clues to accounts, subscriptions, and bills you have not yet handled.
- Consider a mail redirection to the executor/next of kin.
- Shred anything with personal/financial details rather than binning it whole.
